Kota District covers about 5203.94 sq. km. having a population of 5.3 lacs as per 1991 census. It is located between 24°32' and 25°51' North latitudes and 75° 37' and 76°34' East longitudes. The whole district has the characteristics of the Vindhyan range. The Chambal river provides the irrigation, water supply, and electricity to the whole Hadoti Region. Besides these, Kota is identified as a Magnet City in National Capital region Plan.

Kota has abundance of prominent industrial units, good network of railway lines, perennial sources of water and electricity. Kota city has been developing at a fast speed and so many new colonies have come up like Vigyan Nagar, Sanjay Nagar, Dadabari, Talwandi, Mahaveer Nagar etc. in the recent past.

Kota District has been divided into 5 blocks namely - Etawa (Pipalda), Sultanpur (Digod), Ladpura, Ramganjmandi(Kherabad), Sangod. As shown in the map, the Itawa block is in the North, Sultanpur just below the Itawa block, Ladpura and Sangod in the center with Ramganjmandi in the South. Ladpura, Sultanpur and Itawa have river Chambal on one side in the most of the blocks forming boundary.

Kota District has Bundi on its West, Sawai Madhopur in the North, Chittorgarh in South West and Jhalawar in the South East and Baran in the East.
