The climate of Kota varies from semi-arid to arid. The climate of Kota division is characteristic of South Eastern Rajasthan with a long and intensely hot summer, low rainfall and a short mild winter. The temperature normally varies from 10.9° C or 51.6° F in January to 41.7° C or 107° F in May. The highest temperature recorded at Kota was 47.8° C or 118° F in June and lowest was 9.7° C in January. The hot weather usually extends from the beginning of March to the end of June. The heat is intense and is accompanied by the hot westerly wind 'loo'. During the month of May and June the weather is sultry, as the rocks get heated during the day, giving rise to hot winds, which continue till late in the night. The atmosphere during these months is comparatively transparent, which is the cause of frequent sun strokes. May is the hottest month, the mean, maximum and minimum temperature being 41.7° C, 107° F and 24.2° C or 85.7° F respectively.

The period November to February constitutes the cold weather, January being the coldest month. In this month the mean minimum temperature in Kota town is 10.9° C or 51.6° F and the mean maximum temperature is 25.1° C on 77.1° F.

Forests are not common except in the Darrah valley, where pool frost occurs in the month of December and January.

The winter rains are uncertain. Light showers may occur during December and January. The monsoon usually breaks in the last week of June but is often delayed to the middle of July. It continues upto the middle of September. The temperature during the rains is comparatively low. It is malarious from August to October particularly in Darrah Valley.

The annual rainfall data from forests for Kota is 882.8 mm. There are three distinct seasons. The summer starts from March and continues upto June, the rainy season starts from July and continues upto September, and winter season starts from October and continues upto February. The mercury touches 50° C at some of the places during summer and drops to freezing point during winter.
